Memory Eternal: Deacon John Protopapas

Reverend Deacon John Protopapas

This morning, we received the sad news that the Deacon John Protopapas reposed in the Lord around 5:00 AM.  We received this sad news from Fr. Jonathan Ivanoff, rector of St. John the Theologian Church in Shirley, where Fr John was attached and ministered for many years as a subdeacon and deacon.

We remember that Fr John and his family were very involved in the creation of our parish.  Before being ordained to the Diaconate, John served as a leader in our community in many ways, not the least of which was as head of the building committee, during which time he led the design and construction of our present temple.

Funeral arrangements are as follows:

  • Wake: Tuesday, 2-4 PM, at Jacobsen Funeral Home.
1380 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, NY 11746

  • Wake: Tuesday, 7-9 PM, at St. Andrew’s Church.
A Memorial Service (Panikhida) will be served at 8 PM.

  • Funeral: Wednesday, 11 AM, at St. Andrew’s Church
celebrated by His Grace Bishop Michael with local clergy.

May the memory of the servant of God, the Deacon John, be eternal!

Memory Eternal: Archpriest Michael Mihalick

It is with great sadness that we have learned that our former pastor, rector, and father, the +Archpriest Michael Mihalick, has reposed in the Lord.

From the Orthodox Church in America’s website: Archpriest Michael J. Mihalick, 63, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully at home on the morning of Monday, December 10, 2012. For many years, Father Michael had fought a valiant battle against progressive Multiple Sclerosis.

Exploring Faith Through Film

We are anticipating the beginning of our first Fall Film Series!

In thinking of new social activities we could host, and new ways to reach out to people both within and beyond our parish, we are going to try a trial run of film screenings this fall.  This first run will include four screenings, on Thursday nights, up until the Nativity Fast/Advent.  All films will be screened in the Parish Hall, on a projector, beginning at 7:00 PM.  We will have popcorn, soda, and some other light refreshments.  We also can have a brief discussion after each film, if the audience is interested.  There is no cost or fee to attend.  Friends, family, members of other parishes – all are welcome!  If you have any comments, suggestions, or recommendations, please send them to info@standrewsoca.org – thank you!
